Prostate Cancer Foundation Releasing Guide for Men With ProstateCancer, Their Families; Including Critical Insights Into Treatmentsfor All Stages of Disease

Posted on: Thursday, 1 September 2005, 09:01 CDT

-- In addition, the PCF is also releasing second annual "Report to the Nation" for healthcare professionals addressing disease management issues in advanced prostate cancer --

What: Trends show men are being diagnosed with prostate cancer earlier than ever before and are living longer with the disease. While there are many publications that address the needs of men with early stages of prostate cancer, new information and treatment decision-making tools are needed to keep up with the realities of an aging population living longer with the disease.

In response, the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) is issuing its first-ever guide for men with prostate cancer: Report to the Nation on Prostate Cancer: A Guide for Men and Their Families. In addition, the PCF will also issue Report to the Nation on Prostate Cancer: Focus on Advanced Disease, a guide for healthcare professionals.

The Patient Guide will discuss treatment options and latest research initiatives for men in all stages of the disease -- with an emphasis on new and emerging therapies for advanced prostate cancer. The Patient Guide will set the agenda for future dialogues between men and all members of their healthcare team by empowering patients with practical advice and questions to ask their doctors.

The CME-certified Professional Guide, geared toward practicing doctors and the clinical community, offers a state-of-the-art review of issues related to the multidisciplinary management of advanced prostate cancer. The Professional Guide serves as an adjunct to the ground-breaking Report to the Nation on Prostate Cancer issued in September 2004.

Who: Featured speakers include: Mike Milken, founder and chairman of the PCF; Leslie D. Michelson, CEO of the PCF; Peter R. Carroll, MD, co-executive dditor of the Patient Guide and chair of the Department of Urology at the University of California, San Francisco; Michael A.
