APTA Attends Briefing on Women and Health Care

The Kaiser Family Foundation recently held a briefing and discussion that addressed the issues women face as they navigate the health care system. The foundation also released the results of its new study “Women and Health Care: A National Profile” at the briefing.

The study -which includes the latest information on women and health care costs, insurance coverage, access to care, preventive medicine, relationships with providers, and women’s roles in their families’ health care-found that a substantial percentage of women cannot afford to go to the doctor or get prescriptions filled. Although a majority of women are in good health and satisfied with their health care, the report says, many have health problems and do not get adequate levels of preventive care.
