NorthEast Medical Center To Connect 150 Physicians With EHR From Allscripts; E-Prescribing Success Leads to Full Electronic Health Record Adoption

Posted on: Tuesday, 13 September 2005, 09:01 CDT

Allscripts (Nasdaq:MDRX) the leading provider of clinical software, connectivity and information solutions that physicians use to improve healthcare, today announced that NorthEast Medical Center will electronically connect their physicians across 33 locations using TouchWorks(TM) Electronic Health Record.

Under a previous agreement, NorthEast Medical Center deployed the Allscripts e-Prescribing solution. Immediate results included the ability for physicians to manage medications for patients across the continuum of care. With the added functionality of the TouchWorks Electronic Health Record (EHR), under a new agreement, NorthEast physicians have the ability communicate the full patient record, where appropriate, with all stakeholders in the healthcare delivery process.

"Absolute commitment to service and clinical excellence is our mission at NorthEast Medical Center," said Keith McNeice, VP & Chief Information Officer of NorthEast Medical Center. "We have a significant number of patients that move throughout our provider network, and we believe the best way to facilitate our mission at the point-of-care was to adopt an Electronic Health Record. With TouchWorks, physicians will have instant access to their patient records at any of our 33 clinic facilities, as well as from the hospital, emergency center, or their home."

The Electronic Health Record will enable NorthEast physicians to enhance their progressive disease management program. The Allscripts solution provides a sophisticated platform that allows physicians to better manage and track patients with chronic diseases.

"NorthEast Medical Center is a perfect example supporting the idea that electronic prescribing is the first step towards an Electronic Health Record," said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts. "After experiencing positive results with Allscripts' e-prescribing solution, NorthEast Medical Center's physicians are expanding their functionality and will now be able to leverage the full capabilities of our EHR and, ultimately, help lead the way in the national push for healthcare transformation."
