Bayer employees will be introduced to patient advocacy organizations that share a common vision with Bayer's specialty therapeutic areas including cardiovascular health, hemophilia and oncology. Employees will be able to learn more about the national and local services these organizations provide to assist patients. Employees will also be offered a variety of volunteer opportunities that many have requested.

"We're transforming and extending our research and resources in new directions, so it's important to us that our employees understand why we are supporting these organizations," said Paolo Pucci, President, Bayer Pharmaceuticals Corporation. "We want to show employees that we're not just making donations, we're getting involved and making a difference," said Pucci.

West Haven Mayor Richard Borer and Orange First Selectman Mitch Goldblatt have applauded the efforts of Bayer on the Caring Together initiative and will present Bayer with a proclamation declaring September 13, 2005 as "Caring Together - Community Partner Day."

"It's a great example of how industry and advocacy groups can work together to address the health needs of people at the local and national level," said Mayor Borer.

"Heart disease, cancer, and hemophilia, are major causes of the health disparities in our community that need to be addressed," added First Selectman Goldblatt. "Volunteerism, prevention, early detection of disease, and prompt referral to quality health care are essential steps to reducing these and other health problems. Bayer's efforts to work with these charity based groups and make a difference locally is commendable."

The day's activities will include inspirational speeches, informational booths, give-a-ways, and lunch.
