Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian Selects Patient Care Technology Systems' Emergency Department Information System

Posted on: Tuesday, 20 September 2005, 09:01 CDT

Patient Care Technology Systems today announced that Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, located in Newport Beach, Calif., has selected the Amelior ED(TM) patient care system for computer-based patient tracking and clinical charting in its emergency department. Hoag Hospital is a 409-bed not-for-profit facility that treats over 50,000 patients in its emergency department annually. PCTS is exhibiting next week in booth #613 at the American College of Emergency Physicians Scientific Assembly held at the Washington D.C. Convention Center from Sept. 26-28, 2005.

The Amelior ED system selected by Hoag Hospital will integrate a passive form of patient tracking with computer-based emergency nurse and physician documentation. The passive tracking software provides real-time, wireless tracking of the location of patients using badges worn by patients and staff in the emergency department and ancillary areas. The tracking software is called "passive" because no manual data entry is required by department clinicians and staff to maintain real-time information on the location of patients. The software incorporates a rules-based intelligence that identifies when each stage of a patient's treatment occurs which is then continuously displayed on electronic tracking boards configurable to an emergency department's individual layout. The elimination of data entry and the ability to generate detailed reports of all patient flow history assists emergency departments to efficiently match resources as patient flow fluctuates and to analyze historical department utilization. The integrated clinical documentation modules incorporate clinical decision support.
