Zix Corporation Selected By Holy Name Hospital for Secure E-Messaging

Zix Corporation (ZixCorp(R)), (Nasdaq:ZIXI), a global provider of secure e-messaging and e-prescribing solutions and services, today announced that Holy Name Hospital, one of northern New Jersey's leading nonprofit healthcare facilities, has signed a three-year contract for ZixVPM (Virtual Private Messenger) secure email services.
Holy Name Hospital purchased the ZixVPM encryption service to enforce its email security policies and ensure the secure handling of confidential data for 1,000 users. ZixVPM, a gateway solution, includes a preconfigured lexicon that automatically detects and encrypts email that contains protected health information (PHI).
"ZixCorp's good standing and high use in the healthcare community was the reason we initially looked into its encryption solutions," said Michael Skvarenina, assistant vice president of information systems for Holy Name Hospital. "We like that ZixVPM works transparently and doesn't burden our users. It detects PHI and our users don't have to do anything to ensure privacy."
Holy Name Hospital purchased ZixVPM to comply with the secure email mandates of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which require organizations to apply "reasonable and appropriate safeguards" when emailing PHI.
