State of Tennessee Selects CIGNA HealthCare for POS and HMO Coverage

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn., Sept. 21, 2005 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CIGNA HealthCare announced it has been selected by the State of Tennessee to provide health care benefits to more than 120,000 state and local government employees, effective January 2006. Under the agreement, CIGNA will provide claims administration, access to its provider network, care and disease management and its award-winning consumer decision support tools for employees enrolled in point-of-service plans throughout the state and for HMO members in Nashville and Memphis.

CIGNA offers several programs designed to help members manage their health. CIGNA's preventive health and wellness programs aim to keep members healthy. CIGNA's award-winning online decision support tools offer consumers descriptions of each available CIGNA plan; detailed, interactive, side-by-side plan cost comparisons; HSA and Flexible Spending Account calculators; and online side-by-side comparisons of hospitals and medications.
CIGNA programs also help members who are living with chronic disease better manage their health and reduce medical costs. The Well Aware Program for Better Health(R) provides ongoing support and education to members living with chronic conditions, such as obesity, depression, diabetes, asthma, heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and low back pain. CIGNA's Well Aware program also includes care for Targeted Conditions, to help members with one or more of a group of 10 other medical conditions such as osteoporosis, hepatitis C, or acid-related stomach disorders.
