Texas Oncology Cancer Centers in Gulf Coast Area to Temporarily Close Due to Hurricane Rita

DALLAS, Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Oncology Cancer Centers in the Gulf Coast area will temporarily close beginning Wednesday, September 21, due to evacuations and preparation for the pending Hurricane Rita.
Texas Oncology's Deke Slayton Cancer Center in Webster has closed effective immediately. Texas Oncology's Mamie McFadden Ward Cancer Center in Beaumont and Texas Oncology - Sugar Land Cancer Center, as well as Texas Oncology's medical oncology offices in Baytown and throughout Houston, will be closed effective Thursday, September 22. Plans to re-open the cancer centers and medical oncology offices will be announced once the effect of Hurricane Rita is known.
"During Hurricane Katrina, we welcomed more than 100 patients who had been evacuated from Louisiana," said R. Steven Paulson, M.D., president of Texas Oncology. "Our efforts will be no different during Hurricane Rita. We want to make sure any patient from an evacuated area knows they can receive care at any Texas Oncology location throughout the state."
Cancer patients displaced by the storm who need to continue treatment may visit any of the other 35 Texas Oncology cancer centers or 53 other medical or radiation oncology locations statewide. Patients who have evacuated and need care within Texas should contact Texas Oncology at 972-490-2910, or visit http://www.texasoncology.com/ to locate a nearby practice. Patients who have evacuated and will be seeking care in other states, should contact 832-601-6193 or visit http://www.usoncology.com/ for assistance in locating a US Oncology network practice near them.
