"A Family Affair: Creating and Maintaining Health Lifestyles" Health fair will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Springfield, 300 S. 15th St.
The Illinois Department of Public Health Center for Minority Health Services, Greater All Nations Tabernacle Church of God in Christ and the University of Illinois at Springfield are sponsors.
The health fair will commemorate "Take a Loved One for a Checkup Day," a national campaign by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that focuses on the health gap between racial and ethnic minorities and the general population.
There will be free health screenings, including blood pressure checks, hearing and vision testing, cholesterol testing and more. The Area Agency on Aging will be available to answer questions regarding the new Medicare prescription drug benefit, and the new Wellness on Wheels medical services van will also be on display.
Dr. Eric Whitaker, director of the Illinois Department of Public Health and Dr. Clarissa Offutt-Williams of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will be guest speakers. There will also be a performance by the Grace United Methodist Church Praise Dancers.
