American Retirement Corporation Announces Groundbreaking in Victoria, Texas

American Retirement Corporation (NYSE: ACR), a leading national provider of senior living housing and care, announced that it has commenced construction on a new Alzheimer's/dementia unit at the Homewood Residence at Victoria. The $2.5 million project will create a state-of-the-art community that will specialize in the care and housing for those seniors with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia.
Homewood Residence at Victoria is a retirement community that includes 60 independent living units as well as 30 assisted living units. The expansion will increase the continuum of care provided to the community's residents by providing a specialized program, in a home-like setting, that will include special techniques for memory enhancement, a secure environment and active social interaction.
The one-story 19 resident building will feature one-bedroom and studio apartments. The community will be constructed by BARCOM Commercial, Inc. of Corpus Christi, Texas. The project is expected to open for occupancy in June of 2006. In addition to this community, American Retirement operates 25 other communities throughout Texas.
