ChartOne(TM), Inc., announced today that corporate compliance officer April Robertson has been elected to the Board of Directors of the American Health Information Association (AHIMA).
AHIMA is the premier association of health information management (HIM) professionals. Its 50,000 members are dedicated to the effective management of personal health information needed to deliver quality healthcare to the public. Founded in 1928 to improve the quality of medical records, AHIMA is committed to advancing the health information management (HIM) profession in an increasingly electronic and global environment through leadership in advocacy, education, certification and lifelong learning.
"April Robertson is a nationally recognized expert and speaker on HIM issues who has volunteered for AHIMA at the state level for over 20 years," said Mervat Abdelhak, PhD, RHIA, president of AHIMA. "We are confident that her experience and leadership will be strong assets to the Association's Board."
Robertson's three-year term with the association will begin in January 2006. She is one of three new directors to join the board of thirteen, as three existing directors complete their terms. In her role as a director, she will assist AHIMA in setting its future strategy and direction as well as speak at and serve as liaison to several state associations. Prior to her election, Robertson served as president of the California Health Information Association (CHIA) and was co-chair of AHIMA's Ambassadors Committee planning for the 14th Quadrennial Congress of the International Federation of Health Record Organizations (IFHRO).
In her role as corporate compliance officer at ChartOne, Robertson spearheads ChartOne's HIPAA training and education efforts, working with internal staff, customers and state associations. Before joining ChartOne, Robertson was a health information management director for a number of California healthcare organizations, including the Golden Gate Service Area of Kaiser Permanente. She also served as vice president of ambulatory services for QuadraMed, a healthcare information technology company. Robertson has a master's degree in Public Administration and Health Services, is a certified Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) and a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) and earned AHIMA's Certified in Healthcare Privacy (CHP) designation for health information management professionals.
"Election to the AHIMA Board is both an honor and an opportunity," said Brian Cahill, ChartOne's chief executive officer. "In this new phase of her AHIMA involvement, April Robertson will be able to extend the same level of knowledge, commitment and professionalism so familiar to ChartOne and its customers to an even wider segment of the health information management community."
