The full list of health plans in the U.S. News & World Report/NCQA America's Best Health Plans 2005 survey appears in the October 10th issue of U.S. News & World Report, and includes rankings for the best Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial health plans throughout the country.
Among Medicaid plans in the United States, Molina Healthcare of Utah ranks 13th, Molina Healthcare of New Mexico ranks 24th, Molina Healthcare of Washington ranks 31st, Molina Healthcare of California, Riverside ranks 40th, Molina Healthcare of California, Sacramento-GMC ranks 42nd, and Molina Healthcare of Michigan ranks 48th.
"The managers and staff of all of our health plans have worked very diligently to ensure that quality always come first," said J. Mario Molina, M.D., president and chief executive officer of Molina Healthcare, Inc., the parent company of the health plans recognized. "We are gratified to contribute to the well-being of our members by providing them with quality healthcare."
In order to establish the rankings, U.S. News & World Report used data collected by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), a private non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. NCQA accredits and certifies managed care plans and other health care organizations nationwide in order to help consumers make more informed health care choices.
The rankings of U.S. News are based on five categories: Access to Care, Overall Satisfaction, Prevention, Treatment, and Overall Quality Score.
Access To Care measures members' experience with getting needed care, getting care quickly, and health plan customer service. Overall Satisfaction includes members' perceptions about how well doctors communicate, as well as ratings of doctors, nurses, and specialists seen most often, and overall health care provided. Prevention measures how often preventive services are provided, such as childhood immunizations, prenatal care, mammography cervical and colorectal cancer screening, and well-child visits. Treatment measures how well health plans take care of patients who have health problems such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, osteoporosis, and alcohol or drug dependence. Finally, the Overall Quality Score represents a combination of the measures in the four main categories as well as the NCQA accreditation standards score.
