Oct. 4--TOKYO -- Fuji Photo Film Co. and Cmic Co. said Tuesday they have jointly set up a company to help Fuji Film develop health care and other new businesses in the field of life science.

The new company, Fujifilm Cmic Healthcare Co., was capitalized at 100 million yen, with the film maker holding a 60 percent stake and the pharmaceutical manufacturer taking the rest. It was established last Wednesday and started operations Monday.

The joint company will collect information on medical, health care and life science businesses, research market conditions and offer consulting services.

Fuji Film, which has been diversifying its business, hopes to develop the life science field into a core business through the joint venture, while Cmic aims to enlarge its business in health-supporting fields, they said.
