Health Center Chief Sets Goals

Oct. 4–ARLINGTON — The University of Texas at Arlington’s new health center director started work Monday with plans to improve the center’s quality and physical appearance.

Paul Fisch said he wants to make the center more appealing to students, and will seek a government agency inspection to ensure its quality. Fisch, who is not a physician, has a master’s degree in health professions from Southwest Texas State University. He was one of 11 candidates interviewed for the job.

“He meets all of the needs that we have at this time. He has the background, the knowledge, the skill and the ability,” Nursing Dean Elizabeth Poster said.

Earlier this year, UT-Arlington administrators decided to reduce the number of doctors at the center and hire more nurse practitioners. Nurse practitioners have at least a master’s degree. Fisch said he’s confident that the health center can still offer quality service.

“As long as everybody is doing what they can to produce quality care, that’s the bottom line,” he said.
