Physicians Hospital of Oklahoma has changed its name to Community Hospital, Chief Executive Officer Tom Rice said Monday.
The hospital was opened in 1999 at 3100 SW 89th by a group of local doctors and business leaders. The name change took place Friday and is only a part of the updates in the facility, Rice said.
Healthcare Partners Investments acquired the hospital in April from Centers for Special Surgery and Mediplex. Community Hospital is licensed to have up to 49 beds, Rice said.
The board is committed to get involved in the community, and we decided on that as being the best name, Rice said. Since the acquisition, we have added many new services. We are working with cardiologists to help us expand, and that will make us a full- service hospital for services other than obstetrics.
More than 150 doctors make up the medical staff and includes those specializing in gastroenterology, general and orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, anesthesiology, urology, podiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, radiology, pathology, family medicine and cardiology.
Community Hospital has recently added a 16-slice Phillips CT Scan and an MRI will added late this year. The hospital also has opened a physical therapy and occupational therapy department. An inpatient rehabilitation unit was opened in July and a diagnostic sleep lab will be added this month.
