African American Medical Network Stirs Interest Among Cross-Section of Community Leaders

Posted on: Wednesday, 5 October 2005, 09:00 CDT

Dr. Randall Maxey, Past President of the National Medical Association and Chair of the Medical Advisory Board for African American Medical Network, Inc. (Pink Sheets:AFNN) ("African American Medical"), is pleased. A September 26th interview with veteran actor Ernie Hudson, host and spokesperson for the place-based media network's patient education programming, on The Tom Joyner Morning Show had been successful. The syndicated daily radio program airs in more than 100 urban markets across the country.

"Ernie's appearance was part of the Joyner Show's annual Take a Loved One to the Doctor Day healthcare initiative and calls to the office, which began before the interview was even over, have continued for the past week," commented Maxey.

"The response to Ernie's interview demonstrates a strong desire in the African American community for health education information," observed the network's President and CEO, Charles Richardson. "Callers included listeners who had questions about diabetes, high cholesterol, asthma and prostate cancer and doctors who wanted to know how to subscribe to our service.

"Most surprising were calls from a Professor of Health Education from North Carolina Central University and the Director of Student Affairs at Grambling University who were each interested in using our programming for their departments. We also were called by a senior official of the Louisiana State legislature and a State Representative from Florida, both whom are members of their respective state's Health Committees. Each had heard the interview and wanted more information on our programming.

"As we've been saying for some time, African American Medical is unique in its stance to make a difference in the health and well-being of the African American community we serve. No one else is doing what we do, the way we do it, with the impact we have."

Each month, African American Medical Network distributes educational programming on medical and health issues related to the needs of African American patients to doctors' offices around the country. The DVD magazines are updated monthly and are geared to create awareness about key diseases and the steps needed to preserve and improve the quality of life. Hosted and voiced by veteran actor Ernie Hudson, programming consists of fast-paced segments four to seven minutes long that cover pertinent healthcare topics.
