Decas Botanical Synergies Executive Available for Comment on Nobel Prize-Winning Discovery of Bacterium Tied to Stomach Ailments; Specialty Ingredient NutriCran(R)GI Scientifically Shown to Inhibit Helicobacter Pylori Bacteria

In light of the recent Nobel Prize award to two Australian scientists, Dr. Barry J. Marshall and Dr. J. Robin Warren, who discovered a bacterium that causes stomach inflammation, ulcers and cancer, Decas Botanical Synergies (DBS), a division of Decas Cranberry Products, Inc., is reintroducing its NutriCran(R)GI, a synergistic fruit powder blend for supporting gastrointestinal health, which has been scientifically shown to inhibit Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) bacteria.
A published laboratory study determined that NutriCran(R)GI is significantly more potent in inhibiting H. pylori bacteria in vitro when compared to single antimicrobial compounds. These data support the likelihood that NutriCran(R)GI may be more effective in managing H. pylori infections in humans (Vattem et al. 2004 Process Biochemistry).
According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, H. pylori bacteria are believed to be responsible for the majority of peptic ulcers and have also been recently linked to cardiovascular diseases and gastric cancer. One in 10 Americans develops an ulcer at some time in his or her life and greater than 50% of those over 60 years old and about 20% of those under 40 years old are infected with H. pylori bacteria. The current treatment for peptic ulcers involves the combination of antibiotics, acid suppressors, and stomach protectors. Antibiotic regimens recommended for patients may differ across regions of the world because different areas have begun to show resistance to particular antibiotics.
