The Symposium on Healthcare Design Revealed the Latest Research and Trends in the Healthcare Design Industry

The 18th Annual Symposium on Healthcare Design Attracted More Than 1,200 Healthcare Design Professionals with Timely Session Topics, Informative Keynotes and Facility Tours

The Symposium on Healthcare Design in Atlanta attracted more than 1,200 healthcare executives, facility managers, architects, consultants and interior designers to the in-depth conference sessions and tradeshow exhibits during the three-day show held Sept. 26-28.

The Symposium on Healthcare Design, the longest-running conference and exhibition dedicated to the improvement of the overall health and welfare of patients and successful business outcomes through the design element, presented the Symposium Distinction Awards honoring design teams and individuals who have made a profound contribution to the healthcare design industry. Grand prize winners included:

Keynote presentations at The Symposium covered a wide-array of elements including visual arts and healing, the survival story of a cancer patient, and evidence-based methodologies and acoustic assessments of healthcare facilities. Conference sessions encompassed a full-scope of healthcare design issues, discussing timely topics such as the Top 10 Mistakes in Master Facility Planning, Accommodating the Obese Patient and Visitor, Using Evidence-Based Research to Create Better Patient Rooms and Units and Creating Exemplary End-of-Life Settings in Healthcare Facilities.

The Symposium concluded with tours of three newly renovated and redesigned Atlanta healthcare facilities to demonstrate the latest design elements and the effects on the patients, visitors, hospitals and staff. Facilities toured included Emory Pediatrics Research and Clinical Building, DeKalb Medical Center at Hillendale and Northside Community Hospital.

More than 40 companies attended the show to exhibit the latest products and technologies in healthcare design. The Symposium on Healthcare Design is sponsored by Facility Care magazine and is produced by JD Events. The 19th annual Symposium on Healthcare Design will be held at the Navy Pier in Chicago, Oct. 24-26, 2006.
