Callisto Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (AMEX:KAL) (FWB:CA4), a developer of new drug therapies in the fight against hematologic cancers and related diseases, has announced the online availability of an audio interview given by CEO/CSO Dr. Gary S. Jacob to online investor information service, WallSt.net, in which he discusses the Company's pipeline of drug development programs, including anti-cancer drugs designed to treat patients with leukemia and multiple myeloma.
"The interview gave me the opportunity to provide a good overview of Callisto's ongoing development programs," said Dr. Jacob. "We have a significant pipeline of drugs under development to address important medical needs for a significant number of people diagnosed with very serious cancers, such as leukemia and multiple myeloma, who have run out of treatment options under the currently available therapies. We also are making excellent progress in a number of other drug development programs that we believe will ensure Callisto will deliver a continued stream of innovative treatments."
In the interview, Dr. Jacob provides background on the Company's leading drug candidates, which are being developed for relapsed cancer patients who have developed resistance to drug therapies currently available. Atiprimod, a drug designed to treat relapsed multiple myeloma patients, is currently in Phase I/IIa clinical trials. Annamycin, a drug with a novel therapeutic profile is being developed as a therapy for patients with relapsed leukemia. Dr. Jacob also discusses Callisto's preclinical programs to develop drugs for ulcerative colitis, as well as the Company's homeland security research program focused on the development of a drug to protect against staphylococcus and streptococcus biowarfare agents.
The FDA has designated Annamycin and Atiprimod as "orphan drugs." Commercial advantages of that designation include marketing exclusivity protection when the drugs are approved for use.
