NEW YORK, Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ --
NEWS: Breast Cancer Patients Need To Ask For Additional Tests STORY SUMMARY:
October is national breast cancer awareness month, an important time to raise awareness about the second deadliest form of cancer in the United States. The American Cancer Society estimates that more than 211,000 Americans will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year alone. Dr. Marisa Weiss, Director of Breast Radiation Oncology at Lankenau Hospital and founder of breastcancer.org, shares some information about breast cancer testing all women should know. Lori Lober, breast cancer survivor and founder of Touched By Cancer Foundation, also shares her experience.
Most women understand their role in being vigilant in the fight against breast cancer by checking themselves for lumps and scheduling annual mammograms. But now there are additional tests women already diagnosed with breast cancer should know about. In fact, the results of some tests may change the way some women with breast cancer are treated.
Take the case of Lori Lober who was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 36 and given 18 months to live. She has been successfully treated only after a second opinion revealing a more specific breast cancer diagnosis.
