Twenty-nine restaurants in San Francisco and Marin are joining a 10-day fundraising and educational campaign to help women diagnosed with breast cancer cope with the often devastating affects of the disease, according to Golden Gate Restaurant Association Executive Director Kevin Westlye.
The restaurants will participate in the Taste for the Cure from Oct. 15-24 sponsored by GGRA, the UCSF National Center of Excellence in Women's Health and the UCSF Carol Franc Buck Breast Care Center.
During those 10 days, participating restaurants will distribute fundraising envelops with every guest check that describe the program. Diners who make a donation will see their money matched dollar for dollar -- up to a maximum amount -- by the restaurant.
All proceeds will go directly to support the UCSF Carol Franc Buck Breast Care Center, which provides important educational and other informational services for women diagnosed with breast cancer and their families. Donations are tax deductible.
"The Golden Gate Restaurant Association is proud and honored to partner with these organizations in such a worthy effort," Westlye said. "Breast cancer is a devastating disease that affects thousands of women and their families throughout the Bay Area each year. The services that the Breast Care Center provides are invaluable in educating women about breast cancer and empowering them to manage their lives."
The Taste for the Cure coincides with a number of other educational events and conferences on breast cancer awareness and prevention that are scheduled throughout the region and also with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The GGRA is a collective non-profit trade organization formed in 1936 that promotes, extends and protects the interests of the restaurant industry in the San Francisco Bay Area. It has more than 800 members.
