Oct. 13--A St. Louis-based provider of rehabilitation services announced plans Wednesday to build a 24-bed hospital in northern Arlington.
RehabCare Group plans to open Arlington Rehabilitation Hospital in January at Randol Mill Road and Meadowbrook Boulevard.
At about 18,000 square feet, the hospital will include a newly constructed section as well as renovations to an existing building.
It will cost $5 million to $6 million and will employ about 60 workers, Chief Executive Susan Schaetti said.
"We're combining the clinical aspects of medical rehabilitation with trying to create as much of a homelike atmosphere as possible," Schaetti said.
Services will include physical, occupational and speech therapies for patients recovering from conditions such as brain injuries, strokes, amputations and neurological disorders.
Schaetti said the region's residents have lacked nearby rehabilitation facilities.
"North Arlington has nothing, and neither does south H-E-B," she said. "A major part of rehab and the healing part of rehab is family and friends' involvement. This way, you've got people near you."
RehabCare, which has operations in 38 states, runs therapy programs at three hospitals and 15 nursing homes in Dallas-Fort Worth. The new facility will be its third free-standing rehabilitation hospital in Texas.
