PORTLAND, Ore., Oct. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Luis Machuca, president and CEO of Kryptiq Corporation, will be a featured speaker on Health Plan and Provider Connectivity at the 2005 California Association of Health Plans, to be held October 19-21 at the Hyatt Grand Champions Resort in Indian Wells, Calif. Machuca will be joined by representatives from two delivery networks -- Anna-Lisa Silvestre, director of eHealth at Kaiser Permanente and Joseph Siemienczuk, MD, chief medical officer at Providence Medical Group. The panel, moderated by Karen Hunt of CalRhio, will share perspectives on how their organizations have expanded the value of electronic health records (EMR) to improve coordination of care, address quality initiatives, and facilitate collaboration between health plans, providers, and patients.
WHO: Kryptiq Corporation - Luis Machuca, president and CEO Providence Medical Group - Joseph Siemienczuk, MD, chief medical officer Kaiser Permanente - Anna-Lisa Silvestre, director of eHealth, Internet Services Group CalRhio - Karen Hunt, communications director and program manager WHAT:
Health plans are looking to shift reimbursement to support the practice of evidence-based medicine and quality performance. Patients are expecting increased access to healthcare through the provision of online services. Providers need improved availability of clinical information at the point of care to support informed decision-making. Each panelist will give their perspective on how increased visibility and access to health information is helping their organization achieve these goals.
Hunt will open the session reviewing the vision and implementation of a state-wide initiative for a California Regional Health Information Organization (RHIO). Hunt will complete the session by leading a panel question and answer session.
Silvestre will discuss how Kaiser is extending the value of EMRs to their patient population through online access to health services.
Dr. Siemienczuk will focus on how PMG has realized significant quality increases though the utilization of a disease management application integrated with their EMR. This application provides a registry of patients being treated for chronic diseases with functionality to enable effective interventions. He will address how this application has enabled PMG to implement effective financial incentive programs to reward physicians who improve patient compliance and goal-attainment using evidence-based guidelines.
As health plans begin to reimburse for evidence-based medicine and quality performance, and patients take on an increasing portion of the financial risk, simple technologies are needed to provide visibility and mobility to EMR data to enable information sharing. Machuca will highlight specific examples of how readily available technologies are being deployed in organizations across the nation to meet this need of access and interoperability today.
