The Pharmaceutical Institute Launches Education Center Providing Pharma Industry and Therapeutic Area Courses and Educational Programs

Posted on: Monday, 17 October 2005, 09:00 CDT

RALEIGH, N.C., Oct. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- The Pharmaceutical Institute (PI), the leading provider of specialized knowledge for pharma and biotech professionals, today announced the launch of the Education Center. The company is building the world's largest single library of industry-related information and educational resources.

The Education Center will provide live and Internet-based applied education, including courses, customized educational programs, and learning infrastructure development services.

"While most pharma and biotech industry professionals need to collaborate with other functions to do their jobs, many admittedly do not completely understand the purpose those other functions serve," stated Dan Blue, Executive Director of the Pharmaceutical Institute. "These same professionals also have a pressing need to remain well informed about new and existing therapeutic categories. Our library of educational courses will help those working in the industry do their jobs more effectively by offering them a way to better understand the therapeutic and functional areas in which they work."

The Education Center's library of educational courses includes the Understanding Pharma e-course series comprising nine modules covering functional areas of the pharma industry from drug discovery through distribution, and more than 50 therapeutic area courses, topical seminars, and issues-based courses.

Each course includes pre-course and post-course assessments and, once purchased, each course can be accessed via an online "reading room" for completion at the user's convenience over a 90-day period. The costs range from as low $295 for a two-part therapeutic area course to $2395 for Understanding Pharma. Pharma and biotech companies can also work closely with the PI to develop customized versions of standard catalog courses as well as custom courses with specialized content.

Through the Education Center, the Pharmaceutical Institute will also offer learning infrastructure development services to help pharma and biotech companies develop and implement new learning infrastructures, as well as improve existing ones.

According to Dan Blue, PI will assess the client's current infrastructure, evaluate infrastructure alternatives, and then implement a new or improved learning infrastructure.

In addition to the Education Center, the Pharmaceutical Institute comprises the Research Center, providing both Web-based and live support for clients seeking information relevant to their strategic and operational needs including books, syndicated market research, and custom research services available through a team of knowledge managers and library scientists. By leveraging the PI's expertise, companies can spend more time productively applying knowledge tailored to their needs and less time searching for knowledge resources.
