Christiana Care's Emergency and Trauma Services Director to Present Results of Passive Tracking System Implementation at National Trauma Management Conference
Posted on: Wednesday, 19 October 2005, 09:01 CDT
Patient Care Technology Systems (PCTS) announced today that Linda Laskowski Jones, RN, MSN, of Christiana Care in Wilmington, Del., will be presenting the results of her department's implementation of the company's infrared/RFID passive tracking system to improve emergency readiness and department performance. Jones is director of trauma, emergency and aeromedical services at Christiana Hospital, a level 1 trauma center which treats over 92,000 patients each year and is a regional center for emergency medical response. Jones will be addressing attendees of the National Foundation for Trauma Care's annual Trauma Center Management Conference when they meet in San Diego on Oct. 20-22, 2005.
"Trauma centers historically have lacked information technologies to specifically enhance patient flow and communication between caregivers, patients and their families," said Jones. "We have found that a passive tracking system which eliminates manual or active updating by staff provides accurate and complete information on patient location and care progression, and frees staff to dedicate more time to care giving."
Passive tracking utilizes locating technologies such as infrared and radio frequency signals which are emitted from badges worn by patients to identify their location as they move throughout a department. This technology can also be applied to monitor medical equipment location. PCTS has developed software that integrates rules-based intelligence to provide information on the patient's progression of care by interpreting interactions between patients and designated caregivers and the status of laboratory and radiology results into patient milestones. The time-stamping of all patient milestones provides extensive data to departments to further analyze patient flow. The passive tracking system is also able to be integrated with an electronic charting system. PCTS is the leading provider of passive patient and asset tracking in U.S. emergency departments.
