Daxor Corporation (AMEX:DXR), a medical instrumentation and biotechnology company, today announced the receipt of a signed trial agreement from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Medical Center at Hillcrest.
Dr. David Hoyt, UCSD Medical Center's Chief of the Division of Trauma, Burn and Surgical Intensive Care, stated that, "Daxor's revolutionary instrument which provides blood volume measurements will be a vital addition in the critical care setting where understanding a patient's blood volume status is essential." Dr. Hoyt, the Past Chairman of the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma and the Past President of the Society of General Surgeons, remarked that, "We intend to utilize the BVA-100 in our clinical evaluation of patients to more accurately determine our course of treatment as it relates to fluid management and blood transfusions."
Dr. Barry Greenberg, Director of the Advanced Heart Failure Program, said that, "The ability to accurately assess and measure blood volume should be a substantial aid to us in managing our heart failure patients and, in particular, adjusting their diuretic dose. It should give us another parameter to assess in deciding when a patient may be ready for discharge from the hospital."
UCSD Medical Center is the clinical system operated by the University of California, San Diego, part of the renowned University of California system. As the only university-based health care system in the region, UCSD Medical Center is the primary site for such regional services as the comprehensive organ transplant program offering heart, lung, kidney, pancreas, liver and bone marrow transplantation; the Regional Burn Center; the National Institutes of Health-designated Clinical Research Center; the Infant Special Care Center; the region's only National Cancer Institute designated Comprehensive Cancer Center; and the county's only Level I Trauma Center.
Dr. Carl Hoh, the Division Chief and Associate Professor of Radiology said, "We are acquiring the BVA-100 because of its efficient and accurate way of measuring plasma volumes for use in patient management. Our hope is that the BVA-100 will make blood volume testing a more routine parameter of clinical management in such areas as heart failure, trauma, hemodialysis, etc."
