Beverly Hills and 'Desperate' Wisteria Lane Residents Collaborate to Raise a Record Amount of Funds for the Maple Counseling Center at the 32nd Annual Crystal Ball

Posted on: Thursday, 20 October 2005, 18:00 CDT

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Oct. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- the maple counseling center (tmcc), a nonprofit, community mental health counseling center, which provides low-cost counseling to people in need, held its 32nd annual Crystal Ball on October 19 at the Beverly Hilton, with guests paying tribute to "Desperate Housewives" star Marcia Cross, and two pillars of the Los Angeles community, the honorable Mark Egerman and Dr. Lynn Egerman. Attending in support of the honorees were Housewives co-stars Eva Longoria, Brenda Strong, Felicity Huffman, Mark Moses and Mechad Brooks, as well as Lori Laughlin, and Kelly Rutherford.

As recipient of the 2005 Crystal Award for Creative Excellence, Marcia Cross was honored for her commitment and dedication to providing quality mental health care to the Los Angeles community. Prior to becoming one of the most prominent actresses on prime time television, Marcia completed her clinical training (in part at the maple counseling center) to earn a Masters Degree in Psychology.

Mark and Lynn Egerman, the recipients of the 2005 Crystal Award for Community Spirit, were honored for their service and involvement within the Beverly Hills community, both personally and professionally. During his two terms as mayor of Beverly Hills, Mr. Egerman spearheaded the development and funding of a new facility for tmcc, made necessary due to an increased demand for low-cost mental health care. A long time supporter of the center, Dr. Egerman has served on tmcc's Board of Directors for several years, and has consistently provided invaluable direction and support to the center's many programs and initiatives.

"We are deeply indebted to tonight's honorees, as well as our many volunteers and board members who sacrifice their time, talents and energy for the maple counseling center," said tmcc board president Tom Korey. "Because of their tireless efforts on our behalf, the Crystal Ball is a continued success year after year, and we are able to improve and increase our services to the Los Angeles community."

In addition to mingling with TV's hottest stars and supporting the night's honorees, guests of the 2005 Crystal Ball were given the opportunity to bid on spectacular lots, ranging from a Mediterranean vacation, to box seats at a Dodgers game, to cuisine at the finest Beverly Hills eateries.

"Without a doubt this year's Crystal Ball has been the most successful to date, and we owe that success in large part to Los Angeles businesses and philanthropists who give so much to our organization," said tmcc board member and event chair Steven Fenton. "It was a tremendous pleasure to honor the Crystal Award recipients, raise a record amount of funds that will provide quality programs and services and spend time with members of our community who are extremely dedicated to improving mental health care."
