Caritas Christi Health Care to Use MedVentive's Quality Improvement and Cost Containment Software

MedVentive has entered into a three-year agreement with Caritas Christi Health Care to supply Web-based reporting and intervention tools for improving care quality, controlling pharmacy costs and managing care utilization. The six-hospital network plans to have all tools implemented and supporting 1,300 physicians by November.
"The ability to take control of our data and have confidence in what it reveals about the quality of care we provide was a critical goal for our organization, particularly in today's pay-for-performance environment," said Terence Dougherty, vice president of managed care and payor relations at Caritas Christi Health Care. "As we talked to other organizations about how they've met this goal themselves, all roads led to MedVentive. MedVentive's tools will significantly strengthen our performance in these programs and give our physicians consistent, statistically valid quality profiles as frequently as they need them."
Caritas Christi Health Care will use MedVentive's full suite of products, each of which combines data from multiple payers to give physicians a single, integrated view of the care they provide:
-- InfoLens, a state-of-the-art reporting system that combines medical, pharmacy and laboratory claims to give health plans and other healthcare organizations a comprehensive set of analyses and reports that profile every aspect of their medical cost and quality performance.
-- PRISM, a complete drug substitution system that identifies opportunities to switch individual patients to lower cost drugs and provides the workflow to implement the changes. MedVentive clients have improved the quality of prescribing and saved millions of dollars in pharmacy costs using this system.
-- Quality Focus, an innovative quality improvement system that identifies individual patient opportunities to improve the quality of care. Quality Focus helps health plans design and implement pay-for-performance programs and achieve excellence in publicly reported quality measures.
"Because our tools aggregate data across multiple payers, because the information they generate is statistically significant, risk adjusted and timely, and because physicians can obtain any level of detail they need, the reports are actually meaningful to those who use them," said MedVentive president and chief executive officer Dr. Jonathan M. Niloff. "When information has meaning, it can be acted on, and optimal healthcare quality and cost-effectiveness are the results."
Caritas Christi Health Care is the latest addition to MedVentive's expanding client list, which includes such noted Massachusetts healthcare providers as UMass Memorial Health Care, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, CentMass Association of Physicians, Lahey Clinic, Mount Auburn Hospital and New England Baptist Hospital.
