MCDONALD'S is to display fat and calorie content on most product packaging, the fast food chain said last night.
Icons and bar charts will show the nutrition information in an easy to understand format.
Sodium, carbohydrate and protein content will also be displayed in what McDonald's describes as a "first" for the fast food restaurant industry.
McDonald's will start using the new packaging at restaurants in North America, Europe, Asia and Latin America in the first half of next year.
Nutrition information should feature on packaging in more than 20,000 outlets by the end of 2006. The chain said the move will help customers make informed choices about what they buy.
