Flu Shots Available to All Age Groups

October 29, 2005

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has lifted vaccine restrictions, and the Salt Lake Valley Health Department will now provide flu shots to anyone who wants them.

Flu has already been reported on the Wasatch Front, the first hospitalized case verified last week, according to Salt Lake Valley Health Department health officer Gary Edwards, who said it’s important that people get vaccinated.

The shots are still only available from the county health department at the prescheduled flu vaccination clinics. The final two will be today and again on Nov. 5 and will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Salt Lake County Government Center, 2001 S. State. Cost is $20.

Already, nine states have reported outbreaks of flu. And health experts nationwide stress that October and November are the optimal months to receive a vaccine. It takes about two weeks to develop immunity to flu after receiving the shot.
