Uganda plans to provide health service to children
KAMPALA, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- Uganda's Health Ministry is to deworm children aged one to 14 years both in and out of school in the Child Days activity.
Charles Mugero, assistant commissioner in charge of child health from the ministry was quoted by local media on Saturday as saying that during the Child Days, which begin in November, the ministry will provide free Vitamin A supplements to children and to post natal mothers within two months after delivery.
Mugero said the days are meant to reach out and provide services to children and pregnant mothers as a comprehensive package of health services.
Mugero said that the infant mortality rate is at 88 per 1,000 live births and the child mortality rate is at 152 per 1,000 live births.
"The Child Days are not a campaign, but an acceleration of the routine health services provided to the communities," Mugero added.
