Allergy & Asthma Network Mothers of Asthmatics Changes Asthma Management for Patients
Posted on: Thursday, 3 November 2005, 09:00 CST
ANAHEIM, Calif., Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Allergy & Asthma Network Mothers of Asthmatics (AANMA) celebrates 20 years of service to people living with allergies and asthma. Founded in 1985, the organization has grown from one mother's efforts to share her story with other patients to the most influential organization of its kind, reaching hundreds of thousands of people each year.
Today AANMA continues to strengthen the patient-physician relationship, encouraging accurate, patient-friendly communication about asthma and allergies. AANMA was instrumental in including peak flow meters for daily patient asthma management, demonstrating the need for device manufacturers to include dose counters on metered-dose inhalers, and changing laws to protect students' rights to carry and self-administer lifesaving asthma and anaphylaxis medications at school.
Anniversary festivities begin tonight with a Dessert Reception at the Hilton Anaheim Hotel for healthcare professionals attending the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI) Annual Meeting. AANMA plans to raise awareness about new concerns and priorities and the organization's continuing education and outreach efforts for patients living with allergies and asthma.
AANMA and ACAAI
AANMA will highlight two critical issues during ACAAI meeting sessions: barriers to effective patient care in the Medicaid system and substitution of FDA-approved nebulizer medications with unproven and unapproved products. AANMA formed the Consumer Health Alliance for Safe Medication (CHASM), a working group of patient and medical associations, to protect patient access to safe and effective respiratory medications. As part of CHASM's efforts, AANMA will distribute FREE "Do Not Compound This Nebulizer Medication" stamps in the conference exhibit hall.
