New Mexico's Largest Cardiology Practice to Automate With Allscripts; New Mexico Heart Institute Cardiologists to Implement Electronic Health Record
Posted on: Thursday, 3 November 2005, 12:00 CST
Allscripts (Nasdaq:MDRX), the leading provider of clinical software, connectivity and information solutions that physicians use to improve healthcare, today announced that New Mexico Heart Institute will deploy the TouchWorks(TM) Electronic Health Record from Allscripts to connect physicians across 18 locations in New Mexico and Southern Colorado.
As the leading cardiovascular center in New Mexico, New Mexico Heart Institute conducted an extensive evaluation of electronic health record (EHR) systems before selecting Allscripts. The 45 cardiologists and cardiovascular specialists of NMHI were looking for a solution that would improve access to patient information in order to improve the quality of care.
"The Allscripts solution has a web-based architecture, which for any modern system makes sense," said Barry W. Ramo, M.D. of New Mexico Heart Institute. "The documentation, retrieval and communication aspects of the system are clearly superior to other electronic health records we evaluated, including the offering from our own practice management provider. We believe that TouchWorks will allow us deliver world-class, evidenced-based care to our patients, ensuring the highest quality of care."
New Mexico Heart Institute is the first group in the state to install a digital echocardiogram network to capture and archive echo images and reports, allowing cardiologists to quickly access and review images at NMHI's nationally accredited diagnostic imaging centers. The addition of an electronic health record will provide the group's cardiologists the right tools to automate their entire practice, with a solution that can be modified and implemented to fit the needs of their specialty. With the implementation of an EHR, New Mexico Heart Institute physicians are again proving to be leaders in transforming healthcare in New Mexico.
"NMHI has been a leader in using technology to provide world-class patient care. Their decision to deploy a full electronic health record is another step in that process. As a premier cardiology group in New Mexico, New Mexico Heart Institute required an EHR with functionality unique to cardiology," said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts. "Allscripts understands there is a need for clinical software designed for specialty groups and the addition of the New Mexico Heart Institute is a key part of the Company's focus on specialty markets."
NMHI will integrate the industry-leading TouchWorks Electronic Health Record with their existing NextGen practice management system.
