American Medical Association Honors Dallas Physician for Contributions to Medicine

DALLAS, Nov. 5 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The American Medical Association (AMA) honored Dallas orthopaedic surgeon Daniel J. Sucato, M.D., M.S., with the Doctor William Beaumont Award in Medicine for his contributions to medical science. The award recognizes the accomplishments of AMA member physicians under 50 years of age who have distinguished themselves in their field of medicine.

"The AMA is proud to recognize Dr. Sucato for his commitment to the medical profession and his work to address challenges that arise in his field of medicine, especially spine research," AMA President J. Edward Hill, M.D. "Dr. Sucato's extensive work in his home state of Texas, as well as his international research efforts put him at the forefront of his specialty."

A specialist in pediatric orthopaedic and scoliosis surgery, Dr. Sucato practices at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. He oversees the Sarah M. and Charles E. Seay/Martha and Pat Beard Center for Excellence in Spine Research in Dallas, which provides a forum for experts to collaborate on challenges in spinal surgery, influence spine research and enhance treatment of patients with scoliosis. Dr. Sucato has also shared his expertise with physicians in Europe and China, serving as one of three International Traveling Fellows for the Scoliosis Research Society.

Dr. Sucato received his medical degree from the Buffalo School of Medicine, State University of New York. He is an assistant professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern University Medical Center at Dallas.

The award was presented today during the AMA's policy-making meeting in Dallas.
