Death rate of myocardial infarction higher among Beijing's middle- aged
BEIJING, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- The mortality rate of myocardial infarction rose by 154 percent among people between 35 and 44 years of age in Beijing in the past 15 years, a Chinese expert has disclosed, calling on people to adopt a more healthy lifestyle.
The number of factors leading to cardio-vascular diseases rose by 50.3 percent in the past decade, Hu Dayi, an expert of cardio- vascular diseases, said at the 16th International Meeting Cardio- vascular Diseases recently held in Beijing.
He said the latest clinical research shows that 90 percent of the myocardial infarction is caused by nine major factors, including abnormal blood fat, smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure, overweight, lack of exercise, lack of vegetables and fruits in diets, strain and drinking alcohol for a long period of time.
Each year 2.6 million people die of cerebral apoplexy and myocardial infarction in China, which means cardio-vascular diseases claim one life every 12 seconds in the country.
Hu called on people to immediately adopt a more healthy lifestyle, which would include no smoking, a more balanced diet and working out to reduce weight, so as to prevent developing cardio- vascular diseases.
"Otherwise, one-third of people's life-long earnings will be used to treat heart diseases," Hu warned.
