Oakwood Healthcare System Launches E-Prescribing Initiative With DrFirst
Posted on: Monday, 7 November 2005, 09:01 CST
Oakwood Healthcare System, one of Michigan's largest health care systems, has chosen DrFirst to launch an e-prescribing initiative. By the end of January 2006, approximately 70 Oakwood-affiliated physicians will prescribe electronically.
"Oakwood Healthcare System chose Rcopia because of the ability to deliver a patient's insurance information, medication history, allergies and pharmacy preferences to the physicians in real time. This allows physicians to streamline their workflow while enhancing patient safety at the point-of-care," said Paula Smith, CIO, Oakwood Healthcare System. "In addition to these capabilities, it provides the ability to share data between physicians in order to improve continuity of care along with its ability to tightly interface with other systems such as existing electronic medical record (EMR) and practice management systems (PMS)."
The system enables the physician to transmit the prescription to a pharmacy of the patient's choosing. The pharmacy connection is bi-lateral, allowing prescriptions to be sent to community pharmacies and community pharmacies to send electronic renewal requests back to the physician. Physicians can use DrFirst Rcopia via the Internet and on handheld devices. True mobility is delivered using the Rcopia PDA, allowing physicians anytime/anywhere access to patient information and prescription writing functionality whether connected or disconnected to the Internet.
Oakwood Healthcare System has over 40 healthcare centers and 1200 affiliated physicians across southeast Michigan.
