News Advisory:
National Governors Association (NGA) Chairman Mike Huckabee (Ark.) will be a keynote speaker at a meeting of the National Medicaid Directors Association on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at approx. 8:30 a.m. EST.
WHO: NGA Chairman Gov. Mike Huckabee (Ark.)
WHAT: Major speech during the Fall 2005 Annual Meeting of the National Association of State Medicaid Directors. ( http:// www.nasmd.org )
WHEN: Wednesday, Nov. 9, 8:30 a.m. - 9 a.m. (Morning Plenary Session)
WHERE: Salons 1, 2 and 3, Marriott Crystal Gateway (1700 Jefferson Davis Highway, Arlington), Tel.: 703-920-3230
WHY: In a major address to the nation's state Medicaid directors, Huckabee, who chairs the National Governors Association and co- chairs the NGA Medicaid working group, will discuss the impact of the unrestrained costs of Medicaid, natural disasters and a possible flu pandemic that are straining states' esources as never before. Huckabee will not only point out the problem, he will offer solutions.
For over a year, Huckabee has been the center of a national dialogue on how to reform the Medicaid system, which provides health care for 53 million Americans.
The current Medicaid budget growth is unsustainable for a majority of states, who bear most of the fiscal burden of this program. Medicaid serves populations with the most serious and expensive health care needs -- and is the largest and fastest growing component of state budgets.
