AmeriPath Announces the Expansion of Its Gastrointestinal Diagnostic Services in the Northeast Region

AmeriPath, Inc., the nation's largest company focused on providing anatomic pathology, cancer diagnostics, and related health care information services, is pleased to announce the expansion of its GI diagnostic services in the Northeast.
A. Brian West, M.D., our recently appointed Director of Gastrointestinal Pathology Services, AmeriPath New York, will head the development and expansion of AmeriPath's GI specialty services in the Northeast Region. Dr. West is a nationally renowned pathologist who has specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of GI disease for more than 18 years. He has served in numerous prestigious appointments in both the GI clinical and academic service arenas. Clinically, Dr. West served as Director of Anatomic Pathology, New York University Medical Center; Director of Surgical Pathology, University of Texas Medical Branch; and Director of GI Pathology, Yale University School of Medicine. Academically, he served with distinction as a professor of pathology at the Yale University School of Medicine, the University of Texas Medical Branch, and the New York University School of Medicine.
Dr. West, a gifted and accomplished educator, lectured in both mainstream curriculum and elective courses and directed a series of key mentoring programs -- all focused on diseases of the GI and biliary tracts and liver. During the past 15 years, Dr. West has supervised 59 postdoctoral fellows and codirected courses in GI and hepatic pathology at the New York University School of Medicine, the University of Texas Medical Branch, and the Yale University School of Medicine and has authored/coauthored more than 140 journal articles, book chapters, and journal article reviews.
In addition, Dr. West is a past president of the Rodger C. Haggitt Gastrointestinal Pathology Society and the Binford-Dammin Society of Infectious Disease Pathologists, a fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists and the Faculty of Pathology of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, an associate editor of the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology, and a member of the editorial boards of Advances in Anatomic Pathology and the American Journal of Surgical Pathology.
Susan Kornacki, M.D., who joined AmeriPath in October 2005 as part of its expanding team of dedicated pathologists specializing in GI pathology and digestive disease, has been appointed Associate Director of GI Pathology Services, AmeriPath New York. In this capacity, she will assist Dr. West in the further development and operations of the AmeriPath New York practice. Dr. Kornacki obtained her medical degree from the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey and completed her pathology residency training at the UMDNJ and at the University of Chicago. She subsequently completed a two-year fellowship in GI pathology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, under the direction of Doctors John Yardley and Stanley Hamilton.
Dr. Kornacki has held prestigious appointments in the GI clinical and academic service arenas during the past 11 years, to include: Associate Director, Gastrointestinal Pathology, Quest Diagnostics, Teterboro, New Jersey; service as an attending pathologist, Bellevue Hospital Center, New York City; and service as an assistant professor of pathology, New York University School of Medicine.

AmeriPath New York Gastrointestinal Diagnostics will focus on providing primary GI histological services, consultations on difficult cases, and esoteric tests to assist physicians in the diagnosis and management of GI disease.
