Singapore to promote HIV/AIDS education in workplaces

SINGAPORE, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) — Singapore will launch an HIV/AIDS education and prevention program in workplaces to “help de- stigmatize the illness,” Channel NewsAsia reported on Monday.

A joint effort by the government, unions and the business community, the interactive program includes a special video clip, question-and-answer, games and role playing.

It is expected to bring home to Singaporean employers and employees the right message about the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), and to help them “understand better the plight of HIV/AIDS sufferers” in two to three years, the report said.

There are some 2,500 Singaporeans infected with HIV/AIDS, and about 75 percent of them are employed, according to the report.
