NEW YORK, Nov. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- New York University Hospital for Joint Diseases (HJD) honored Anthony, John and Marc Viscogliosi with the first annual Industry Leader Award at the Hospital's 2005 Founder's Gala on Monday, November 7, 2005. The event, held at the Waldorf-Astoria, celebrated the Hospital's centennial and launched a major capital raising campaign to fund programs and multidisciplinary facilities for the care of children and adults with devastating orthopedic and neurologic diseases and trauma.
The Hospital for Joint Diseases Industry Leader Award was created to honor an individual or company that has demonstrated extraordinary vision, commitment, energy and service to the advancement and growth of the musculoskeletal industry. Through their merchant banking firm, Viscogliosi Bros. LLC (VB), the brothers are being recognized for their profound contributions to the scientific development of the orthopedics industry.
As a leading contributor to HJD's capital campaign, the Viscogliosi brothers chose to fund the creation of a spine center, an advanced technology center for small bone and joint care and other facilities at the hospital for patients needing comprehensive treatment for musculoskeletal diseases and trauma.
In receiving the Industry Leader Award from Victor H. Frankel, M.D., Ph.D., KNO, the former chairman of the HJD, Anthony Viscogliosi said: "We trust that the industry knowledge and financial fuel we offer will support the continuing advancement of orthopedics through the surgeons who define it and the patients who rely on it."
About VB's Industry Leadership
Established by Marc R. Viscogliosi, John J. Viscogliosi and Anthony G. Viscogliosi in New York City in 1999, Viscogliosi Bros., LLC was the first investment firm dedicated to musculoskeletal/orthopedics, concentrating on nurturing surgeon-developed, "life changing" technologies.
Over the last six years alone, the brothers have championed new industries, created new philanthropic, scientific and research societies, and financed and developed numerous companies. The brothers have either led or participated in more financial transactions in the musculoskeletal sector than any other group.
The brothers' guiding philosophy is based on accessing the best quality information and being first to use it in investing and developing promising technologies. The brothers share 40 years of experience in pioneering orthopedic technologies and financing more than 150 companies from start-ups to exits.
This work has led to the creation of three new industry sectors in the field of orthopedics and medical devices: spine arthroplasty; medical device reprocessing; and small bone and joint specialization. More than 85,000 patients worldwide have benefited from the use by surgeons of implants developed or funded by the Viscogliosi brothers, and nearly 500 people are employed in the companies in which VB is an owner.
