Firm producing unauthentic bird flu vaccines ordered to suspend production
HOHHOT, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese pharmaceutical plant which had illegally produced and sold unauthentic bird flu vaccines was ordered to suspend operation Thursday.
The biological pharmaceutical plant, based in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, was found producing at least 4 million ml. of triple vaccines against Newcastle disease and H9N2 and H5N28 types of bird flu between May and June this year without government approval, according to the regional agricultural department.
The vaccines had been sold to Liaoning and Henan provinces. Investigators found that the vaccines were products from pilot- scale production, which were allowed to be used in experiments but have not been approved for sale.
Operation of the plant, which was approved by the Ministry of Agriculture for the production of livestock vaccines, has stopped.
The ministry allowed the plant to make a type of H5N2 vaccine last year.
Investigation into the real amount of the unauthentic vaccines and the sales situation is underway.
