Text of report by North Korean radio on 11 November

In relation to bird flu spreading to many foreign countries around the world, hygiene and epidemic prevention centres across the country are directing efforts into hygiene and epidemic-prevention work.

Amid the ongoing organized work of preventing bird flu under the umbrella command of the State Emergency Anti-Epidemic Committee, hygiene and epidemic prevention centres in each province, city, and county are taking the lead in these efforts.

The Central Hygiene and Epidemics Prevention Centre and hygiene and epidemic prevention centres in each province have organized an epidemic-notification department and a hygiene publicity department in regards to bird flu.

Hygiene and epidemic prevention centres notify relevant units of various bird flu-related materials, including data on damages and technology. They are also dynamically promoting the work of intensively introducing and publicizing the global situation [concerning bird flu], its dangers, and preventative measures via various formats and means.

Functionaries of hygiene and epidemic prevention centres completely control and monitor the overall state of domestic fowl in their areas, and conduct normal inspection work among not only those who breed domestic fowls but also all the residents who raise domesticated animals.

In addition, they have built an isolated ward to immediately isolate and treat infected patients, once found, and at the same time, are promoting the work of securing medical goods and necessary materials.

Functionaries of hygiene and epidemic prevention centres in North and South Pyongan Province, and North Hamgyong Province are taking the lead in the work of preventing bird flu. They are demonstrating a high sense of responsibility in all issues rising from the close coordination with the State Emergency Anti-Epidemic Committee.
