A BIRMINGHAM human rights group is calling on mental health patients in inner city areas to speak out on abuse at a public meeting.

The Citizens Commission on Human Rights, based at Suffolk St Queensway, is reaching out to people living across Bordesley Green, Small Heath and Alum Rock.

Members have organised a meeting at Small Heath Methodist Church, Blake Lane.

They hope anyone who has complaints or concerns over mental health services in the city will turn out on Wednesday. Chris Wrapson, spokesperson for the group, said: "We have hundreds of calls from individuals coming to us for help after being in the hands of psychiatrists.

"Now is the time for residents of Bordesley Green, Alum Rock, and Small Heath to speak up and make their voices heard The Commission was launched to protect rights of the mentally ill, many of whom feel they have no where to turn if they are facing problems.

Members vehemently campaign to highlight failures of the psychiatry system in Birmingham and further afield.

Anyone with information on abuse in psychiatric facilities or adverse reactions to psychiatric drugs is urged to confidentially contact the Citizens Commission on Human Rights Abuse Line on 0845 260 2247.
