Vital: MY BEAUTY SESSION TOOK ME TO CALM, SPA-AWAY PLACE

Posted on: Tuesday, 22 November 2005, 03:02 CST

By Cath Bennett

I'M not one for spending hours on my beauty routine...

If I can be bothered to exfoliate, cleanse, tone, tweeze and moisturise, I'm so exhausted by the end of it I look worse than when I started. But if someone else can do it for me - well, that's another thing entirely.

Glasgow's new Revive Wellbeing Spa offers the ultimate in pampering treatments. The salon is in the same building as Greens gym but it's best to avert your eyes from the fitness fanatics as you prepare to indulge yourself for a few hours.

My beauty therapist, Amy, quickly picked up on the fact that I rarely moisturise and recommended the Balinese Spa Package - a deep hydrating treatment.

I was led to the Balinese Spa Suite, lit by candlelight and with the aroma of oranges thanks to the fact a big tub of them wafts a gorgeous, natural smell.

The treatment started with a body brush, to eliminate toxins, before I was given an all-over lulur scrub.

This exfoliator has a kind of herby, woody smell and was traditionally used by Javanese brides as a purifying ritual before marriage.

It's certainly invigorating and makes your skin feel fantastic. Next I sunk into the flower bath, filled with sea salts and featuring massage jets.

I was left to laze in the bath for as long as I wanted, before Amy smothered my body witha hydrating moisturiser. The application is tantamount to a full body massage.

The next stage involves being wrapped like a turkey in a foil blanket then covered in towels topped with a duvet. While the moisturiser does its work, you get a multi-vitamin power facial and scalp massage - intended to boost circulation and relievestress. By this point, I was almost asleep, as the combination of soothing music, candlelight, exotic smells and massagewashed over me. Then it was back into the hot tub for another 10 minutes before a final layer of moisturiser was applied.

I emerged from the spa in a slight daze, pink-faced, soft of skin and feeling fantastic.

The treatment is certainly one I'd treat myself to again. To book a treatment at Revive Wellbeing Spa call 0141-221-8855
