Siemens Introduces New Generation of CT Clinical Engines

Posted on: Tuesday, 29 November 2005, 12:00 CST

Siemens Medical Solutions announced today new computed tomography (CT) Clinical Engines, addressing four key clinical fields in medical imaging: acute care, cardiology, neurology and oncology. Being showcased at the 91st Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) from Nov. 27 to Dec. 2 (booth #4337) in Chicago, this new clinical workflow concept maximizes the clinical performance of CT imaging by combining state-of-the-art CT technology with Siemens' established syngo(R) solutions.

CT Clinical Engines offer improved image acquisition and quality resulting in exceptional visualization, as well as comprehensive evaluation, robust quantification and flexible reporting - all in one syngo environment. Thus, the new clinical workflow concept increases diagnostic speed and confidence for a wide range of clinical questions. Available on the SOMATOM Definition(TM), Sensation(R) and Emotion(R) CT scanners, these new CT Clinical Engines provide synergy benefits across the entire clinical workflow in each field.

"Siemens' new generation CT Clinical Engines offer clinical configurations that can simplify any facility's clinical workflow," said Scott Goodwin, vice president, CT Division, Siemens Medical Solutions. "These engines provide a total, customizable CT solution that can meet the demands of any clinical environment, whether it is a large research facility or diagnostic imaging center."

The four CT Clinical Engines are:

-- Acute Care - Patients in critical condition must be accurately and quickly diagnosed. The CT Acute Care Engine offers a complete solution for emergency and trauma imaging, providing an extended Field-of-View and scan range up to 200 cm for full body diagnosis. Fast and direct 3D reconstruction enables reviewing of images before the patient is off the table - a considerable advantage when time is of the essence.

-- Cardiology - As cardiology is the most demanding task in CT imaging, the CT Cardiac Engine can enable the clinician to master motion-free imaging, ultimately improving disease detection and diagnosis. From imaging coronary arteries to peripheral vessels, this cardiac software solution simplifies diagnostic workflow and offers higher throughput.

-- Neurology - With head, neck and spine disorders or injuries, it is essential to acquire artifact-free imaging with a high spatial and temporal resolution. The CT Neuro Engine can assist in evaluating complex vascular structures by subtracting bones, differentiating brain tumors and diagnosing strokes, all in less than ten minutes.

-- Oncology - The CT Oncology Engine assists in detecting, localizing, visualizing and differentiating tumors earlier. The syngo computer-assisted reading tools, combined with intelligent evaluation, automated follow-up, and image-guided intervention, present higher diagnostic confidence for preventive care, staging, follow-up exams, and real-time guided biopsies. Additionally, comprehensive tumor perfusion enables a fast and easy visualization of tumor enhancement and aids in differentiating tumors.

Available in two workplace configurations - a dedicated CT Workplace and a MultiModality Workplace - CT Clinical Engines are driven by syngo CT.3D, providing the basis for fast, efficient 3D imaging workflow. syngo MultiModality Workplace can be configured with up to four CT Clinical Engines. In addition, special syngo applications solutions can be added for each clinical field and imaging modality, such as molecular imaging or radiation therapy planning. This creates a complete workflow solution tailored for every clinical area.
