Nine Finalists to Compete at 'Jackie Chan Studio Fitness School Dash' National Championship

Posted on: Thursday, 1 December 2005, 09:00 CST

After a series of blistering competitions from coast to coast, nine city-wide champions in the "Jackie Chan Studio Fitness School Dash" competition are converging on New York City for the National Grand Championship and a chance to take home the grand prize: $10,000 for college in the form of a savings bond. Second and third place winners will receive $2,500 and $1,000 savings bonds respectively. The national fitness competition among sixth through eighth grade students began in mid-October and concludes on Saturday, December 10, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the ESPN Zone in Times Square.

Developed by Jackie Chan Studio Fitness in partnership with XaviX and the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE), the "Jackie Chan Studio Fitness School Dash" competition was created to promote physical fitness within the education system. Over 50 participating schools in San Diego, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Boston, and New York introduced students to exercise through the J-Mat, an interactive application designed to test speed, endurance and reflexes.

"We would like to congratulate each of our nine finalists for their outstanding performance thus far, and we look forward to a thrilling finals competition at the ESPN Zone," said Rachel Woodland, spokesperson for Jackie Chan Studio Fitness. "Thousands of students, parents and teachers from across the country have participated in the Jackie Chan Studio Fitness School Dash, and they all deserve a big thank you for making this such a fun, spirited fitness competition."

The "Jackie Chan Studio Fitness School Dash" competition began with students competing at their home schools. Using the J-Mat, each participant was challenged to take the most number of steps in a 10-second period. One winner from each grade advanced to city-wide semifinals, where the top three fastest "dashers" received $100, $50 and $25 for college. The city-wide competitions also determined which nine regional finalists would be flown with their families to New York to compete in the National Grand Championship.

In addition to the national fitness competition, Jackie Chan Studio Fitness is dedicated to combating childhood obesity by working with schools across the country to incorporate the J-Mat application into the curriculum of physical education classes and/or after-school programs.

"The ultimate goal of this in-school pilot program is to provide educators with alternative methods for encouraging exercise by utilizing the type of interactive technology that today's kids already embrace," said Woodland. "We have already seen some very positive outcomes from this program and look forward to extending it next year to more schools in additional markets."

Currently available products for the Jackie Chan Studio Fitness line include J-Mat and PowerBoxing(TM), both available nationwide at Linens 'n Things stores and online at www.lnt.com and www.xavixstore.com. MSRP for the J-Mat is $89.99; MSRP for PowerBoxing is $59.99; MSRP for the XaviXPORT is $79.99.
