Suspected bird flu patient dies in Jakarta
JAKARTA, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- A 25-year-old Indonesian woman suspected of suffering from bird flu had died in Jakarta' Sulianti Saroso Hospital on Tuesday, the website of Jakarta Post quoted its spokesman as saying here on Wednesday.
Initial tests by local laboratory found Sri Wahyuni positive for the H5N1 avian influenza, said Ilham Patu.
Further tests were being conducted at the World Health Organization laboratory in Hong Kong to confirm whether Wahyuni was Indonesia's eighth bird flu fatality and 13th case of infection in the world's fourth most populous country, he added.
Housewife Wahyuni was admitted to the hospital, the main center for treatment of bird flu patients in Indonesia, showing symptoms of the virus on Nov. 24. She had been transferred from a general hospital in nearby Tangerang, where she was treated for three days.
Bird flu has claimed more than 60 lives in Asia since 2003.
