Lee Hosts Medicare Prescription Drug Plan Meetings in East Bay

U.S. Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Oakland, will hold town hall meetings Saturday on the Medicare prescription drug plan.
Meetings will be 9 to 11 a.m., Faith Lutheran Church, 20080 Redwood Road, Castro Valley, and 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Veterans Memorial Building, 200 Grand Ave., Oakland.
Representatives from Medicare and Medicaid Services, AARP, Families USA and the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program will help seniors understand and enroll in Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Benefit Program.
Attendees should bring their Medicare identification number; a list of drugs they currently take, dosages and prices; refill schedule and preferred way to receive prescriptions (pharmacy or mail-order); annual income; and a basic accounting of personal assets should they qualify for low-income assistance.
Open enrollment for Medicare Part D began Nov. 15 and coverage will take effect on Jan. 1. People signing up after enrollment closes on May 15, 2006, may have to pay penalties.
