Dr. Joy L. Frestedt Named Vice President of Clinical Affairs for Humanetics Corporation

Joy L. Frestedt, Ph.D. has been named Vice President of Clinical Affairs for Humanetics Corporation of Eden Prairie, Minnesota. She was formerly Executive Director of Research at the Minnesota Applied Research Center (MARC), a wholly owned subsidiary of Humanetics.

“Dr. Frestedt has demonstrated outstanding clinical research skills and has established MARC as a premier research organization,” says Ronald Zenk, President and CEO, Humanetics Corporation. Dr. Frestedt’s responsibilities will be expanded and in addition to her current role overseeing all activities at MARC, she will assume responsibility for designing and guiding the overall clinical development program for Humanetics. “Dr. Frestedt’s significant clinical trial experience, background and training in the pharmaceutical industry will be a tremendous asset to our organization,” added Zenk.

Dr. Frestedt currently holds an appointment as an adjunct faculty member in the Departments of Biology and Business Management at the College of Saint Catherine in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Prior to joining MARC, Dr. Frestedt served as Manager of Clinical Affairs for Ortho Biotech, a Johnson and Johnson company; Operations Manager for Mayo Clinical Trial Services at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota; Medical Information Scientist for Astra Zeneca Pharmaceuticals; and Manager of Busulfex Clinical Development for Orphan Medical in Minnetonka, Minnesota. In addition, Dr. Frestedt has significant academic experience including faculty appointments and classroom/laboratory instruction activities for the departments of Biology and Chemistry in the Minnesota State College and University System and at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Dr. Frestedt completed her undergraduate work at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology, and her graduate work at the University of Minnesota, earning a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Pathobiology. Her thesis research investigated the genes and proteins involved in infant leukemia and the 4;11 translocation. Prior to entering graduate school, Dr. Frestedt was employed as a medical technologist, research scientist, and laboratory director. She directed the Coleman Cytogenetic Research Lab at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota and her work involved cancer genetics, immunology and cell biology in clinical and research laboratories in Minnesota, New York, and Illinois. Dr. Frestedt is an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncologists, Association of Clinical Research Professionals, Society of Clinical Research Associates, and the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists.
