SHPS Announces CareWise(R) Health Portal to Support Consumer-Directed Healthcare
Posted on: Tuesday, 13 December 2005, 15:00 CST
SHPS, a leading healthcare company selling Integrated Health Management solutions to large employers and health plans, announced today it will be releasing a health portal to support consumer-directed healthcare under its CareWise brand name.
The CareWise Health Portal will provide a one-stop, integrated web experience that empowers consumers to enroll in benefits, manage their personal health and health spending accounts and evaluate physicians and hospitals.
"Healthcare consumerism ultimately comes down to changing behavior in personal health management and health purchasing habits," said Mike Brennan, corporate vice president, marketing and sales. "With this in mind, providing consumers with a simple integrated experience is critical."
The CareWise Health Portal provides extensive health tools and content, including multiple health risk assessments, a personal health diary, exercise and nutrition guidance, a medical appointment manager, a personal health record management tool and secure messaging for two-way dialogue with physicians. The portal experience is highly interactive and highly personalized. As the consumer interacts with the portal, the tools and content are customized to the specific user.
"There are two key features that differentiate the CareWise Health Portal from other web-based health services in this emerging market," added Brennan. "First, the CareWise Health Portal provides consumers with direct access to a comprehensive suite of health services that SHPS has provided for decades, including a 24-hour nurseline, the ability to manage chronic diseases and track spending account claims and balances.
"Furthermore, it assists consumers through real-life events with a high degree of personalization based upon health interests. Many health portals offer nothing more than an on-line medical encyclopedia, rather than providing true guidance to consumers."
The CareWise Health Portal is currently available for large employers, health plans and third party administrators for spring 2006 implementation, and can be branded for each organization. The portal can also be configured to meet the needs of specific user populations, including employees, health plan members and retirees.
The CareWise Health Portal supports SHPS' approach to consumer-directed healthcare - Integrated Health Management - a suite of customizable products that allows an employer or health plan to offer participants a seamless healthcare experience.
